Hybrids and electric vehicles have a big high-voltage battery that moves the car. They also have a regular 12-volt battery, much like a conventional car. It powers the computers, the door locks, the lights and the systems that connect the high-voltage battery to the rest of the car.
If the 12-volt battery is too weak, the car may not start up at all, even though the large battery is fully charged. Drivers often see warning messages, a car that will not power on, or a key fob that stops working.
