Standard flooded lead-acid batteries have been the default for decades: affordable, reliable and easy to service. AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries are a newer design that holds the electrolyte in a fibreglass mat instead of free liquid.
AGM batteries handle vibration better, recover from deep discharge more reliably, and support the higher electrical demands of modern vehicles with start-stop, advanced safety systems and heated everything.
Many newer vehicles are designed specifically for AGM or EFB (enhanced flooded) batteries and should not be switched back to a standard battery. Doing so can shorten battery life and cause the start-stop system to stop working.
AGM batteries typically cost more than standard flooded batteries. The right approach is to check your vehicle's original specification before replacing, so you get the correct type, not just a cheaper one that happens to fit.

Slow cranking, dim lights, a swollen case — here is what to watch for before you are stranded.
The honest answer: it depends on climate, driving habits and the battery itself.
Cars that shut the engine off at red lights ask a lot more of the battery. Here is what to know.
